August Ends: What September Brings on the Costa del Sol and What to Do With the Calm

Today is the official last day of August. Ocean Club closed yesterday, Starlite is done for 2026, and Costa del Sol life shifts into calm September mode. Here's what September really brings and how we handle this month differently than peak summer.

Ocean Club Marbella closing recap — Sunday 8/30 was it

    Ocean Club closing

Ocean Club Marbella closed its 2026 season yesterday with Carl Cox b2b Adam Beyer — 1500 fans, 3.5-hour set 16:00-19:30, and the traditional season-closing champagne shower at 18:00 that became the symbol of Marbella's summer. We were zone 3 (€220 including €40 F&B credit) — money well spent. What the DJs brought: mostly Drumcode techno mix with an unexpected Talking Heads cover edit. Next Ocean Club season starts May 1 2027 — book your sunbed residency in October 2026 for a 15% discount.

    • Next season: May 1 2027 opening
    • Rest of 2026: Ocean Club closed through April 30 2027
    • Tip for 2027: Ocean Club residence program (€10K season sunbed pass) opens October 15 2026

Starlite Marbella season done — 2027 pre-sale info

    Starlite 2027

Starlite Marbella closed the season with Joaquín Sabina's farewell show Saturday August 30 — a goodbye set, no scheduled tour moments left in Spain for the 76-year-old cantautor. We weren't inside (was at Cortijo de Torres Saturday), but our hotel-concierge contact reported a standing-ovation show. For 2027: Starlite-tickets-2027 pre-sale starts Tuesday October 14 2026 (10:00 CET). Our advice: sign up for the newsletter via starlite.es for pre-sale code.

    • 2027 tickets pre-sale: Tuesday October 14 2026 10:00 CET
    • Newsletter: starlite.es for pre-sale access
    • Expected 2027 line-up: no announcement yet, but tradition suggests 2 international + 4 Spanish stars + 2 flamenco special
    • Rest of 2026: Starlite closed to public through March 2027

Trocadero Arena Marbella — What September brings

    Trocadero September

Trocadero Arena Marbella stays open in September, unlike Ocean Club. The DJ programme runs through October 20, with cheaper sunbed rates from Thursday September 4 (€25 weekday, €40 weekend instead of €30/€50 in summer). We're going this week Saturday September 6 for lunch + DJ — fewer crowds, better weather (35°C instead of 40°C+), same service.

    • September weekday sunbed: €25 including €10 F&B credit
    • September weekend sunbed: €40 including €15 F&B credit
    • DJ programme: daily 14:30-19:30 through October 20
    • Tip: weekday afternoon is end-of-summer relaxation at prices no longer at Ibiza level

Ronda vendimia — Wine harvest starts today

    Ronda vendimia

The wine harvest in Ronda officially begins today August 31 and runs through end of September. For anyone interested in the region: the 9 bodegas in Ronda (see wine tourism article) all offer September-October vendimia tours — €20-35 for a 2-hour experience including grape-picking, wine-press demonstration + tasting. Bodega F. Schatz does the most authentic vendimia (hand-pick tradition) — book now for September 5-15. Cortijo Los Aguilares is more commercial but more accessible for families.

    • Best months: September + October
    • F. Schatz vendimia: €30, September 5-15, +34 952 871 313
    • Cortijo Los Aguilares: €25, September 1-30, loaguilares.com
    • Tip: go before 11:00 starts for cool harvest-hour experience

El Balneario Baños del Carmen — September price change

    El Balneario September

El Balneario Baños del Carmen has been in winter-price mode since today: menu del día €15 (was €18 in summer), wine €2.80/glass (was €4 in summer), espeto prices unchanged. The season runs through October 31 for lunch, then closes for 4 months for renovation. We're going at least 3 times in September — best price-quality, cooler weather, no queues.

    • September menu del día: €15
    • Open through: October 31
    • Tip: book Friday 9/4 for birthday lunch — Cumple-Verjaardags special €25 pp
    • Bonus: September has the most beautiful sunsets in Pedregalejo of the year

    September Costa del Sol agenda

    • First week of September: rest + gradual ramp up, perfect time for beach without summer crowds
    • Mid-September: Ronda vendimia in full swing, ideal for wine day trips
    • End September: Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián (not here but elsewhere, the best month for cultural focus)
    • Next big actueel article: September midstream + October preview (publishing Monday 9/14)
    • Tip for anyone here now: skip Marbella centro restaurants on Friday-Saturday — neighbourhood spots are better and cheaper

Feria Málaga Begins: Five Days to Opening and What's Coming This Weekend

Five days to Feria Málaga 2026. Here's the day-by-day plan for the opening weekend, plus the hotels still bookable this week for anyone deciding last-minute. And: how to combine it with Starlite Estopa Saturday in parallel. Opening weekend programme August 14-17. The official opening of Feria de Málaga is Saturday August 15 at 14:00 on Plaza de la Constitución with the mayor Paco de la Torre's speech plus the official fireworks-start signal. Day-feria begins then on Calle Larios + surrounding streets, and night-feria at Cortijo de Torres opens the same evening at 21:00. Fri 8/14 evening: pre-eve, central restaurants open extra-late Sat 8/15 14:00: official opening Plaza Constitución Sat 8/15 21:00: Cortijo de Torres night-feria opens Sun 8/16 11:00: Romería de Santa María (horse procession) Mon 8/17: rest day — Casco Antiguo usually quieter Hotels: Hotel del Pintor (€175 still available), Petit Palace Plaza Málaga (€220 still 30%) Estopa Starlite Saturday 8/15 — How to combine both. The problem for Marbella-based attendees this Saturday: Starlite Marbella has Estopa Saturday August 15 at 22:00 — the absolute peak show of the season for flamenco-rock fans, and Feria Málaga begins that same afternoon. Our solution: drive from Marbella at 11:00 to Málaga for the opening speech (14:00), eat lunch on Calle Beatas (tapas bars €3-5 a piece), back to Marbella at 19:00, then Starlite Estopa show from 22:00. Logistics: car Marbella 11:00 → Málaga 12:30 → return 19:00 → Starlite 21:30 Allow: 30 min parking-search time Málaga centre Tip: AC Hotel bus to Málaga (€8 one-way) as alternative — no parking stress Estopa cat-3: sold out, only via Hotel Don Pepe concierge Mercado Atarazanas in Feria week — The schedule. We asked Mercado Atarazanas late last week — the regular market closes entirely Saturday 8/15 (all traders in Feria), reopens Sunday 8/16 as a 'mercado especial' from 09:00-14:00 only for tourists, and then returns to a normal Mon-Fri 08:00-13:00 schedule through Friday 8/21. For Airbnb kitchen shopping in Málaga: Mon 8/17 or Tue 8/18 morning are the best windows. Sat 8/15: closed Sun 8/16 09:00-14:00: Feria special, limited products Mon 8/17 — Fri 8/21 08:00-13:00: early-close (2h earlier than normal) Sat 8/22: closed (Feria closing) What to do on rest day Monday 8/17. For anyone skipping Feria on Monday (calmer): the Muelle Uno port promenade is one of the few places in Málaga that isn't packed on Feria Monday. Walk from Mercado Atarazanas to Muelle Uno is 10 min, terrace by the sea with view of Centre Pompidou. Lunch on the terrace 13:00-15:00 for €25 pp. Then back to the centre from 16:00 — that's when we re-embrace Monday-Feria energy. Open Feria-Monday: Muelle Uno fully Restaurants: Plaza, La Cocina del Mar, La Mesa del Mar all open Tip: rest + late-lunch + then back-to-centre is the best Feria-recovery formula What's STILL bookable this week (August 10-14). For late deciders: Hotel del Pintor: €175 Monday-Sunday (4 nights), 5 rooms free Hotel Las Vegas Málaga: only 8/22 night (€140) — for anyone coming just for the closing Apartment El Perchel (Airbnb): €95-130/night, 7 listings free for 8/14-22 Airbnb Pedregalejo: €110-145/night (East Málaga, 15 min taxi to centre) Train Marbella ↔ Málaga 8/15+22: €8 one-way, book now for specific times Not recommended. Hotel AC Málaga Palacio: €420/night for 8/14-22 — abusively expensive, skip Apartment Calle Larios direct: noise 24/7 during Feria, not for families Car parking Málaga centre 8/14-22: avoid, use train or out-of-centre parking --- Photos: montuno (CC BY-SA 2.0), via Wikimedia Commons; Google Maps contributors.

Twelve Days to Feria Málaga: What We Booked and What's Still Possible

Today is day-12 before Feria de Málaga 2026. Málaga centre hotels: 90% booked since last Thursday. But options remain — if you move this week. Here's what we booked yesterday and what's still possible. What we booked: Friday 8/14 through Monday 8/17 in the centre. Booked for Feria de Málaga: three nights August 14-17 at Hotel Vincci Selección Posada del Patio (€225/night, breakfast included). Friday 14/8 14:00 arrival, Friday evening quiet in Mercado Atarazanas area, Saturday 15/8 main opening 14:00, Sunday 16/8 Romería plus lunch, Monday 17/8 day-feria before we drive back. Reason for this pick: Vincci is 5 min walk from Calle Larios and the Cortijo de Torres bus stop. Hotel Vincci Selección: €225/night through 17/8 Arrival tip: Friday 14/8 train from Marbella 11:30 → Málaga 12:50 (€8 one-way) Avoid: Hotel Larios Centro or Hotel AC Málaga Palacio — we find them overpriced for Feria peak What's still possible this week — Four hotel recommendations. Checked this morning for 14-22 August availability in Málaga centre: Hotel del Pintor (Calle Álamos): 60% still available, €165-220/night — small, 4-star, 3 min walk to Calle Larios. Book this week. Petit Palace Plaza Málaga: 40% still available, €195-260/night — boutique, modern, 1 min walk to Plaza Constitución. Book before Friday 8/8. Apartment Cervantes (booking.com): 70% still available, €110-160/night (no breakfast) — 2-person flat, 4 min to Atarazanas. Good budget option. Hotel Las Vegas Málaga: only 22/8 still available (after Feria) — not recommended for Feria week itself. Tip: Airbnbs in the El Perchel district (south of centre, next to Atarazanas) are 30% cheaper than centro but 5-7 min walk — best option for lower budget. Cortijo de Torres night — How to get there. The night-feria happens at Cortijo de Torres, 4 km south of the centre. During Feria, free shuttle buses run continuously from Plaza de la Constitución from 21:00 until 04:30. No taxi needed. We have planned two evenings in Cortijo (Saturday 15/8 and Thursday 20/8) plus Sunday 16/8 day-feria in the centre. Shuttle bus: free, departs every 15 min Plaza Constitución Caseta entry: €2-5 cash Food: chiringuito tents in Cortijo do pescaíto frito (€8-12) and specialties Tip: move from caseta to caseta in groups of 4-6 — most fun Starlite Marbella Saturday 8/2 — Lola Índigo booking deadline. We're going Saturday 8/2 to Lola Índigo at Starlite Marbella — we booked category 3 yesterday (€120 ticket). Lola Índigo's flamenco-pop is one of the most commercial Starlite shows, but her Eurovision legacy makes it accessible. For anyone joining: today is the last day to book category 3; category 4 (€65) closes this week. Today is the cat-3 deadline: without it you wait through Saturday Cat-4 still available through Friday 8/8 Next Starlite show: Estopa Saturday 8/9 (sold out completely) Tip: Starlite Beach Club dinner beforehand €70 pp menu (no entry included) Mercado Atarazanas during Feria week — What changes. Mercado Atarazanas is open during Feria week but with a strongly altered schedule: Mon-Fri 08:00-13:00 (closes 2 hours earlier than normal), Saturdays fully closed (all market traders are Feria participants). For anyone wanting fresh fish for an Airbnb kitchen: buy Monday 17/8 or Tuesday 18/8 morning. For Feria food: head to Calle Beatas (parallel to Larios) — tapas bars at €3-5 a piece. Atarazanas open during Feria: Mon-Fri 08:00-13:00 only Tip: Calle Beatas bars for lunch — not Feria prices Next Ocean Club: Tale Of Us Saturday 8/1 (last Saturday, sold out zones 1+2) What to book this week (August 3-9). Hotel Málaga 8/14-22: before Thursday 8/6 — book today Lola Índigo cat-3: today is the last day (€120) Lola Índigo cat-4: Friday 8/8 deadline (€65) Ocean Club Charlotte de Witte 8/23: zone 2 still open, book before 8/10 Train tickets Marbella ↔ Málaga 8/14+22: AVE rail book now, no station queue stress --- Photos: amata_es (CC BY-SA 2.0), Itelchan (CC BY-SA 4.0), via Wikimedia Commons; Google Maps contributors.

July on the Costa del Sol: Feria Estepona, Starlite Top Acts, and What's Still Bookable

July is the busiest month of the Costa del Sol year. Feria Estepona opens Wednesday, Starlite headliners are Tom Jones + Jamie Cullum, and beach club Saturdays between July 7 and 26 see no fewer than six A-list DJs. Here's what's on, what to book, and what we're doing tomorrow. Feria Estepona — Wednesday July 1 through Monday July 7. Feria de Estepona kicks off Wednesday evening July 1 — the second big feria of the year (after Marbella in June). Programming is concentrated in Estepona's Casco Antiguo plus the Recinto Ferial: traditional day-feria (horses, traje corto, sevillanas) and evening-feria (rides, casetas, kid-friendly before 22:00). Saturday July 4 is the highlight with the San Pedro procession and main-stage concert. We're going Thursday-Friday — optimal days to get in quickly and see everything. Casco Antiguo day: 11:00-22:00 daily July 1-7 Recinto Ferial evening: 21:00-04:00 (Saturday to 05:00) Main stage concert Saturday 4/7: 22:00, free, arrive 21:00 for seat Tip: Ayuntamiento parking lot free, fills up after 21:00 Starlite headliners in July — Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Diana Krall. Starlite Marbella has three absolute top names on the July schedule. Book now — last Saturday (June 28) categories 1-4 for Norah Jones suddenly sold out within 12 hours. What's coming up in July: Saturday July 5: Tom Jones — category 1 €280, category 4 (€65) still available Saturday July 12: Jamie Cullum — category 2 €180, category 3 €95 Saturday July 19: Diana Krall — category 1 €240, category 4 €65 Saturday July 26: Pastora Soler (flamenco night) — category 3 €120 For anyone wanting headliners without category 1 budget: arrive 30 min before the show, buy walk-in cat-4 if available, eat beforehand in Marbella centre. We always do that for lesser-known artists. Beach club Saturdays — Four A-listers in 3 weeks. Ocean Club Marbella has a serious July line-up confirmed. Expect zones 1+2 fully booked within 7 days for each: Sunday July 5: Tale Of Us — €180 sunbed + €40 F&B credit, zone 3 still open Saturday July 11: Adam Ten — €120 sunbed + €30, zones 2+3 open Saturday July 18: Carl Cox — €200 sunbed + €40, nearly sold out Sunday July 26: Solomun — €220 sunbed + €40, full Trocadero Arena Marbella has a calmer programme (€50-80 weekend sunbed) for anyone wanting an A-name DJ without Ocean Club pricing. Book at least 5 days ahead for weekends. Nikki Beach Marbella — July Saturdays are different. Nikki Beach Marbella hits its yearly peak pricing in July. An opium bed for four on Saturday July 18 has climbed to €800 (from €600 in June) — excluding food and drinks. What stays: the Saturday vibe from 14:00, the signature champagne spray at 16:00, the DJ line. What changes: dress code stricter in July (beach-formal not casual), and the walk-in waitlist runs over 90 min. Saturday July sunbed: €250-350 per person (including F&B credit €100) Reservation: required Saturday, recommended Sunday Tip: if July Saturday is too pricey, pick a Tuesday — €120 sunbed, same vibe What we're doing tomorrow (Monday 6/30). Monday is the rest day between Pride Torremolinos closing (Sunday) and Feria Estepona opening (Wednesday). We use it for pre-July planning: table booking for Saturday Tom Jones dinner, hotel confirmation for Feria Estepona weekend, and a calm beach morning at El Charcón. Not everything needs to be busy — July is coming. Booking advice for early July (this week). Today (Mon 6/29): book Tom Jones cat-4 or cat-3 before nightfall — sellout expected in 4-6 days Tuesday 6/30: confirm hotel/restaurant for Feria Estepona weekend Wednesday 7/1: feria opens — go Thursday 7/2 if you can't do the whole week Friday 7/3: Hot Since 82 b2b Adam Ten Trocadero — sunbed booking now Monday 7/6: rest day — use for Carl Cox 7/18 planning --- Photos: Google Maps contributors.
